Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle (the “belly” of the muscle) and the manipulation of fascia, also called connective tissue. Fascia is like a web that runs through the entire body. This connective tissue, when traumatized, inflamed or restricted can create a great deal of pain and restrict motion of the body. Deep tissue massage is a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots (also known as “adhesions.”). It helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. Although this type of massage can be more intense, it should not hurt, hurt lol (it hurts good lol). Communication is key with your therapist regarding pressure and intensity so that they can adapt their techniques as needed. Release of toxins, opening and balancing the fascia and release of ligaments and tendons are all taken into consideration when using this technique. Deep slow strokes using the hands, palms, fingers and elbow CAN cause some tenderness and soreness the day following a massage using deep tissue massage. Drinking lots of water is highly suggested after a deep tissue massage.
"Best massage therapist I ever had. Relaxing, gets the kinks out and am not left in pain. Me and the East Coast are going to miss her. " - Tracy
is an outstanding Massage Therapist and I was with her for a number of years. Now
that she is in Seattle I only see her sometimes when Jen makes it back to VA for a
Massage. " -Paul
is an excellent massage therapist who also provides stretching advice that greatly
improves problem areas. I have yet to find a therapist on the east coast nearly
as good since she moved west. "
"We met Jen through a referral from a fitness coach in our area. She helped my husband immensely and immeasurably during his illnesses, and found time to administer to me, the caregiver, too. She went the extra mile for us, always coming when we needed her, even making plans to be here on short notice when she was out of town. She is an excellent massage therapist, soothing my husband's aching body, and educating herself in his special needs. Her work ethic is excellent and she went out of her way to accommodate us in many ways. I can't recommend her highly enough. Through it all, we became friends and keep in touch to this day. I am thankful and lucky that we have had her in our lives." - Karen
"Jen is a fantastic massage therapist. I only wish she was closer because every therapist I've seen since Jen, fails in comparison. " - Molly
